Clutch Role Players vs Superstars: Making Sense of the Wildest Finals
The basketball world is witnessing one of the most unexpected NBA Finals matchups in recent memory, and the Pick'em Pros are breaking down every angle of the Pacers-Thunder championship series. What started as a predicted gentleman's sweep has evolved into a legitimately competitive battle that has basketball fans divided on who will ultimately hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
At the center of our spirited debate is Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, whose postseason heroics have sparked a fascinating discussion. Is he truly a rising NBA star, or as Diego provocatively suggests, merely a "clutch role player" who lacks the game-to-game consistency of established superstars? The panel dissects his impact, his game-winners in each playoff series, and what his performance means for Indiana's championship hopes.
Beyond the on-court analysis, we tackle the concerning ratings slump this Finals has experienced and whether it reflects a broader issue with how the NBA markets its product. Have the league's media partners dropped the ball by focusing exclusively on established superstars while neglecting to properly showcase exciting young teams like the Pacers and Thunder? The telecast production itself comes under fire for lacking the championship atmosphere fans expect from the NBA's biggest stage.
Football fans will appreciate our breakdown of Aaron Rodgers officially signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers and whether Mike Tomlin's remarkable streak of non-losing seasons will continue with the polarizing quarterback at the helm. Our panel offers drastically different predictions about what this means for the Steelers' playoff chances in the competitive AFC North.
As we wrap up Season 3 with this final live show, we reflect on our favorite moments and preview exciting changes coming to the Pick'em Pros in Season 4. With a new studio, expanded format, and fresh perspectives, we're building something special for our loyal community of sports fans. Will you join us when we return in the fall?

All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back. You know who it is, I am Derek Thompson.
Speaker 2:And I'm Diego Thompson and I'm Christopher Davis. And who are we, the Pick'em Pros?
Speaker 1:We are the Pick'em Pros coming back at you in the house with a special episode of who you Got. The final episode of Season 3, last live here man, father-son dynamic duo and Christopher he did not say his nickname. C pain, davis. What's up y'all? How we doing, doing great, doing good, all right, all right, so you got the championship hat on okay, looking good.
Speaker 3:How about the guy who picked the pacers? Again, the gentleman sweep is not happening, so, uh, let's see if they can get three straight. Let's see.
Speaker 1:Gentleman's sweep is not happening. That's true, that's true. But tell me if I look worried, do I look worried at all? Just be worried. Am I worried? Be worried.
Speaker 4:I don't think you're worried, man. I'm not worried, be worried.
Speaker 1:I'm not worried. I'm not worried. Okay, I'm not concerned whatsoever. We will get into that. We've got a fire show. Thank you all for checking us out. We know the comments will be off the chain today, as well as probably more questions, as this is again the live show, last live show as we wrap up Season 3. We'll be going into Season 4 in the fall and there's going to be a whole new format. A lot of things are going to change and evolve for the better. Got my man, david, in the background here checking us out. You know, helping out with a lot of things that's going to happen. We got Joe running things in the studio. We got Summer in the background running things, brandon in the background, everybody. We've got Brianna backstage. That's going to be joining us. It's going to be joining us. Uh, it's going to be great.
Speaker 1:We're going to cap the show off by talking about our favorite season three moments, but we're going to start off. Of course, pacers will then go into OKC thunder. Are they choking the series away? Some people seem to think that. All right, we're going to go into Aaron Rogers finally signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers Worst kept secret ever. Okay, does that mean anything at all. Are they actually going to go to the playoffs or will that mean nothing? Okay, and then we'll give our picks for the big game tonight. The big game four tonight. Many think this is a pivotal game, and many folks have the winner of the game tonight pegged to win the championship. So some people think this is game seven. So we'll talk about the game tonight and then, of course, finish off with our favorite memory of season three, and then we'll have our final three minutes with Brandon. We got three topics that he's going to hit. All right, y'all ready to get into it? Yes, sir, all right, let's do it. Let's do it. Thanks again.
Speaker 2:So Indiana Pacers man, they're celebrating Everybody's happy. Oh man, look at that, man, look at that.
Speaker 1:Christopher C Payne Davis got his chest poked out.
Speaker 2:Man, Happy you know what I mean. They should buy a beam while they're at it, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4:They should have.
Speaker 2:Yes, yes, they should definitely pull a Sacramento.
Speaker 5:They remind me a lot of the.
Speaker 1:Sacramento Kings Remind me a lot of the San Antonio Spurs remind me a lot of those types of teams. So they should light a beam.
Speaker 2:They definitely should light a beam.
Speaker 1:They're happy. Everyone's just, oh man, joyful. It's just good. Chris, how do you?
Speaker 3:feel man.
Speaker 1:We're in a great spot.
Speaker 3:I mean 1-2-1. I do think that this is a pivotal game for it, but from what we've seen?
Speaker 1:Oh no, it's not pivotal.
Speaker 5:It's over. What do you mean? It's over? I never said it was over. I never said it was over.
Speaker 3:Listen, let's be realistic about this Pacer team One. Nobody expected us to be here. I mean, I remember picking them as a dark horse. I didn't think they would go this far. I I thought at least conference finals did not expect you know, two wins away from winning, winning the whole thing. Okay, so let me let's temper the expectations with my patients.
Speaker 6:I did not listen.
Speaker 3:I think they could win now, right.
Speaker 2:But before tempering, oh no.
Speaker 1:Oh no, oh no, sky high, all right, sky high guy, but I do think.
Speaker 3:I do think, when it comes to this team, that they are one of the best underdog stories we've seen in recent memory. I do also think that this team is a good story for the NBA. They finally got a small market team that wasn't touted, that wasn't covered, all of a sudden making almost a Cinderella-like round. Well, that doesn't feel like Cinderella, because they're beating a bunch of really good teams in five and six games and then there's a game-winner every single series, six games, and then, you know, there's a game winner every single series. So and again calling this a boring brand of basketball. When we see, like the fourth quarter and everybody kind of like on the edge of their seats and see what the pacers might be able to do, I don't necessarily think that that makes for a boring series or a boring team. So I feel like that, all in all, this has been a great series. This is and we'll see tonight because this is a big one. I do think that whoever wins this game is probably going to win the series.
Speaker 1:Okay, all right. All right, sounds good. Now let's do a quick, quick technical check. Hey, summer, do you hear C-Pain? Well, just give me thumbs up if you do. Okay, all right, okay, I just want to make sure. I just want to make sure. Diego, I know you were smiling a lot while C Payne was giving his take on the Pacers and saying how great this is for the league.
Speaker 2:He said you know, while watching the fourth quarter people were quote on the edge of their seats while watching the Indiana Pacers ball out in the fourth quarter. So yeah, I just thought that was funny. This is probably the worst NBA Finals I've ever seen in my life. Funny this is probably the worst NBA Finals I've ever seen in my life, just like in total, the enjoyableness to watch and the Pacers being in it just kind of ruins the whole vibe. To answer the question, the Pacers are not winning the NBA Championship.
Speaker 2:That's not going to happen. The series is over. As you said, the Thunder got it in the bag. They're going to Golden State Warrior. They're going to tie up 2-2, go back to OKC.
Speaker 5:It's going to be 3-2, then they control the series Wow.
Speaker 3:OK, the classic.
Speaker 2:Now that does sound. That's why I'm wearing this hat right here. The Golden State Warrior.
Speaker 1:OK, now you do have a history in calling this. You did fly to Game four of the Celtics Warrior Series back in 2022. I think we may have that on the news where you called that, so you may not be new to this.
Speaker 2:You just might indeed be true to this Tonight. We're coming back tonight. We're going to tie it up 2-2, go back to Golden State, then 3-2. Then we're going to control the series. Okay, you did the exact same thing, just with OKC.
Speaker 3:Same thing.
Speaker 2:Okay, Got the MVP Shea Going to do his little mid-range Average at getting his 30, his 36 and 6.
Speaker 6:And the free throws as well, mr Consistent.
Speaker 2:A few free throws sprinkled in there.
Speaker 6:Yeah, you know whatever gets the job done.
Speaker 2:and you know, yeah, we're going to walk home with it.
Speaker 1:Okay, okay, I like that and we'll do a deeper dive into Game 4 later in the show. So we'll dive into that, since this is such a big game, big, pivotal game, so we'll dive into that. But as a whole, I think we know where we stand for the series, so to speak. So you definitely still have all the confidence in the world in OKC. You think there's no way in the world the Pacers are going to win this C-Pain. You believe that the Pacers are going to win. You definitely stepped up at the King show last week. Shout out to everybody that checked that out. It came out that was a fire show. We had a great time, with everybody Still putting a lot of clips out from that. So, thank you, you've got a lot of buzz and a lot of people are reaching out wanting to get on the show as a result of that one. So we appreciate that. But so, c-pain, you definitely are dug in to the Pacers. So it's good, not only analytically but emotionally, and I like it. I like it.
Speaker 1:I like it, I like when the heartstrings get into it a little bit. So that's good. Now we got everybody right where we want them.
Speaker 2:Just like Steph at the Celtics. Right where we wanted them, they got us 40.
Speaker 1:And so you know, just to throw my little two cents in. You know, yes, I still am riding with the OKC Thunder. They will win this series. I'll go deeper into it later. But as far as the game three, I will say I was very disappointed with OKC. I think people are overreacting with the Pacers right now because they're acting like they have been dominating the entire series where in all actuality OKC was up double digits.
Speaker 1:Game one, game two clearly the better team in game one. Game two okay. Game three it was back and forth six point lead, eight point lead, both teams right. Much more evenly contested game. And at about the nine and a half minute mark, okc just fumbled, totally fumbled, the bag when they had that bad turnover where all they had to do it was what we used to teach your uh parks and rec team, right, I think it was. Uh.
Speaker 1:Jaylen williams had the ball, totally panicked, right, he was getting pressured and there was no reason. There's no five second count in the nba. He did not have to pass the ball. All you had to do was keep pivoting and waiting for somebody to come open. But he panicked and felt like he had to get rid of the ball. Horrible turnover.
Speaker 1:Pacers go down the court because they were up four or six and looked like they were going to score. Go up eight, take control of the game. Awful turnover that led to a fast break point by the Pacers. Then credit to the Pacers. They steal the inbounds, play right and then boom, then it's a ballgame. Crowd's in it, Game. Boom, then it's a ballgame, Crowd's in it. Game was over. Right there, Game was totally over. So that was the big momentum shift.
Speaker 1:But I feel like and this happens with the NBA Finals just period People overreact on both sides right after every game. But I feel like now the consensus except with the betting public and darn it we might have. So I can place, do do a little something before the game starts. But the um, the line is so interesting though, because the line was five and a half. Okc is a favorite. When I went to bed last night and then when I woke up it was six and a half. So everybody except the betting public seems to think that the Pacers have control of this series. But anyway, we'll get to game four. We'll get to game four later. C-pain, you want to make another statement, since you are riding high right now, you want to make another statement before we talk about your guy Halliburton.
Speaker 3:I just think that it's interesting how we had a whole discussion on OKC being, you know, a team that's reminiscent of the Bulls and the great Warriors. Yes, discussion on OKC being, you know, a team that's reminiscent of the Bulls and the great Warriors teams of all.
Speaker 2:Yes, still is.
Speaker 3:And I do think that we kind of might have jumped the gun on that, because again you are seeing their youth in some of the games, where again Chet Holmgren does have like a dominant half and then he disappears. Jalen Williams has a dominant half again. Shane is having a great series Outside of game three. He has played phenomenally. So I'm not taking that away from him at all. But the rest of the team, with the bench players, with everything, I think, because the Pacers bench has really been the difference in the series, plus Tyrus Halliburton's clutch shot in game one, that has been the true difference of this series, this game. This has to be OKC's bench stepping up as well, because Shea can't do it all, because you saw at the end of the game everybody was gassed, everybody's hands on their knees, you know, staying down a little extra second, trying to get your win back. Right, I don't know, I feel like again, I don't know what I'm going to call game four.
Speaker 1:I do, we'll see, we'll wait and see, we will get into that for sure. But yeah, the bench has to step up, but more than that, the team needs to feature the bench. They just dumped the ball off the SGA and everybody else just stood back and it was way too much of that. Not enough ball movement at all. I feel that they make their way back to that and swing the ball and share the ball more. So it was way. It was way too much SGA, for for sure.
Speaker 2:Also need to take advantage of their bigs, too, cause with these smaller lineups I think they can do that, especially with Chet's versatility that helps them still being big and versatile. That helps.
Speaker 1:Agreed For sure For sure, all right. Well, let's move on to the next topic. Let's talk about Halliburton. Okay, guys, taking the league by storm, all right. Okay, he was on that list of being most overrated in the NBA. That was a list voted on by his peers. Okay, that was not a media, not a media poll. That was a player poll. Wow, okay, but he's taking shots at the media, but that was the players that did that. But anyway, okay. And so, man Diego, you seem to have coined an amazing phrase of clutch role player. Yeah, so, man, that you really really did it with that one. But so Halliburton, diego, is he a superstar or is he a clutch role player, as you have coined? I think we clearly know where you stand oh yeah, he's definitely a clutch role player.
Speaker 2:Just the consistency being off is why I call him that, because role players usually aren't as consistent as super superstars such as SGA, for example. Day in, day out give you their numbers consistency. Well, this guy over here decides to be inconsistent some days and he hits a clutch shot every now and then, which is why I call him a clutch role player, because he is very clutch. I've given him that he's very clutch and he was at home last night. He did have a good game on Wednesday, whatever it was, and role players do play better at home. So, yes, I will give him that as well, nice.
Speaker 3:That's all I got to say on that. Okay, nice man. I gotta say on that, okay, all right, all right. So I don't know what this man has to do to like get rid, because the whole superstar role player debate with him it's it is interesting. I will say he's very good. I think he's a star superstar. That's reserved for, like the upper echelon. That's consistency over time. So I do agree with you on that. But acting like he's a role player is absolutely insane, because to me it's like a clutch role player.
Speaker 5:Okay, all right.
Speaker 3:For a game winner in every single series. You are the engine of this offense. You're the reason that this team is able to go as far, because of your heroics in certain games, robert Ory.
Speaker 2:That's true. Yes, robert Ory Did Robert Ory have 35-12-15?
Speaker 7:Did.
Speaker 3:Andre Goddard, did he have 35-12-15 in an Eastern Conference final?
Speaker 1:I don't know, by the way he played in the Western Conference.
Speaker 3:But that's what I'm asking.
Speaker 2:Andre Goddard won a Finals MVP. That was a role player.
Speaker 3:That's the Finals MVP that you admit Steph should have won, so you don't even got to like that one, still to even be in the running. You're a Steph fan and you admit that he shouldn't have had that one.
Speaker 2:Still to even be in the running is impressive for a clutch role player.
Speaker 6:All right, this guy didn't win the MVP.
Speaker 1:He hadn't even won the MVP, he hadn't even won nothing.
Speaker 2:That was Siakam who was their best player. One of the easier conference finals. Mvp. Most consistent and best player Versatile.
Speaker 1:Plays defense. So you say he is a star.
Speaker 3:I would say star, superstar. That's reserved for people who have already cemented legacy, like a Steph, like a LeBron, like a KD. I think that we were trying to push Ant there. Ant's not there yet. I think Shay is a superstar Because again MVP and again the accolades Jokic superstar. There has to be a combination of accolades and consistency. So I'm with you with the fact that there are moments where he isn't the like.
Speaker 2:Shiny person on his team, but I do don't think that takes away from the fact of him being a star.
Speaker 1:Look when he scored three points in a and a half game. To that that dude, that did happen, did happen. So he had six assists in that game too. He reminds me of the player that is not as talented, that gets in the game, that scores a basket and then everyone loses their mind. You know, it's like, oh, that's so good they scored. You know what I mean. That's a lot of what reminds me, because when he does have a big game, when he scores 22, right, less than SGA everybody loses their mind on what a great game he had Right. And when he doesn't do well, it doesn't. You know, getting out with the finals has gotten, you know, a little more attention. But yeah, it's very interesting because he doesn't have the same expectations as other players. So you certainly can't put him in a superstar status because nobody even expects anything like that of him. Kind of similar to a role player, although he has.
Speaker 1:I guess he's the one on the roster that you can name and I think that's why, a lot of, why he's kind of gotten this superstar label, because we just we still don't really know the Pacers.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we don't really know them like that. And then you know, to even go back to I'm kind of going back to the other topic a little bit with the Pacers here and you know this, for the NBA, you know they're still trying to recover last year of the Pacers going as far as they did this year. Ratings are atrocious right now, absolutely atrocious. Like we were in lids before coming over here and we were looking for hats and you know we asked them. We were asked about pacers and okc and they were like okay, what league is that? Like okay, that that's the nba, that's okay, it's in that section. It was this little bitty column on the wall of their nba hats and like on the all the other walls, like all these you know major league baseball hats and all these nfl hats, and the nba just had this little sliver of just a couple hats.
Speaker 3:I have a question about that. So you don't think it's more so a problem of the NBA inability to talk about small American teams? Because they're still talking about, again, my favorite team in June and again, as a fan of the Lakers, I'm not going to lie it does get irritating because I'm getting a little Cowboys feeling with us during these later LeBron years where it's like we're going to win the finals and then we get stomped in the first round. And again, this is me being very realistic about that and y'all can finally quote me on that, because I did have a god-awful take about us winning the championship. But I will say I do think that it's a problem with the media as well. It can't. It's not solely just people are just interested. There's not an again with the nfl, it's like poetry with all these small market teams.
Speaker 7:It's with all like yeah, it is a media issue?
Speaker 1:yeah, but it's not a media issue because of the market. The market has nothing to do with it, a la lebron, james and cleveland. Cleveland's a small market and that wasn't an issue there and it wasn't an issue even in okc when kd and westbrook and all those guys and Harden were there. So it's not so much the small market, it's the fact that the NBA has fallen so in love with again Steph LeBron and all those guys. They never featured the up-and-coming teams all year.
Speaker 2:Yes, because LeBron Steph KD they keep hanging around All year. Yes, because LeBron Steph KD they keep hanging around and with the Olympic stuff especially off that they keep just branding those guys and the other teams that are actually winning and doing things. Like the Celtics when they won, they didn't get that much attention when the Nuggets won. So NBA just focuses on marketing the older guys who just keep hanging around. Because they just keep hanging around. Yeah, for sure, for sure.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, I think it's more of that. On Christmas Day, that was a prime time to highlight the up-and-coming guys and what they do Same old same old, same old.
Speaker 1:So they really need to do that. Hopefully it's next year. They do a better job of that. Also, hopefully that's another thing the telecast and thank you for the comments, the comments to want to acknowledge some of those but the telecast has been trash, absolute trash. Espn has done an awful ABC. Espn is. They've done a terrible job and I cannot wait for this to move the NBC. Why, why are we not showing the starting lineups for the games and getting everybody high?
Speaker 2:No starting lineups, no national anthem.
Speaker 1:Nothing. The game just starts.
Speaker 2:It should at least be like a mini Super Bowl type of, because the finals it's a championship. The Super Bowl does all this stuff and the NBA does nothing. To where even? I remember when the Warriors were playing, they would show the national anthem and the starting lineup and all this stuff, at least showing the logos Something more than just like.
Speaker 3:Oh, the one thing that the last series, I felt like the finals, was the Celtics and Warriors.
Speaker 1:Yes, no doubt.
Speaker 2:You see the gold lettering you get the feeling of like they had the gold logos, they had the trophy outside. It was just little stuff like that.
Speaker 1:No doubt.
Speaker 3:No doubt, no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 1:No doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 3:No doubt, no doubt. That had to be said, that just had to be said.
Speaker 1:Well, let's move on to the OKC Thunder. All right, let's move on here and let's talk about man. Are they choking the series away, or are the Pacers just that? Good, let's talk about this. So, diego, what's your take on OKC so far? Are they choking this away?
Speaker 2:They're not choking it away because I believe they're going to win, but if the like, they could have definitely won some of the two games that they lost. So I believe they did choke away game three, actually both of the games they did choke away. But as far as the whole NBA Finals, I believe they'll bounce back. I believe they've had control of the series and it's just Indiana's had these moments that have got them two games. But if OKC continues to keep control for these whole games, then they will win for sure. All confidence.
Speaker 1:Now, hypothetically, let's say Halliburton and crew Halliburton. Who else plays for the Pacers? Anthony?
Speaker 3:Bethlehem Pascal Siakam Miles Turner, tj McConnell.
Speaker 1:All those guys.
Speaker 3:Oh, those guys, I know their coach Rick Carlisle.
Speaker 1:The coach. So, if Rick Carlisle can lead them to win the NBA championship, just like he led the Dallas Mavericks to shock the world against the Heat, right Against the LeBron, lebron Wade, bosh Heat what will this do for OKC? How big of a stain is it? We've already seen one coach get fired for losing to the Pacers. We've already seen staff members get fired for Pacers being on Diego. What would this mean for OKC if they were to lose to the Pacers in the finals?
Speaker 2:It would be bad. It would definitely be bad. For sure, the coach might have to get fired. Actually, you know what They'd have to clean house, get rid of everybody. Get rid of the coach, the whole coaching staff. Trade, sga trade Jalen Williams, chet. Get rid of Sam Presti, just get rid of everybody. Start over and bring Kevin Durant back, maybe Russell Westbrook, bring the whole crew and just start from there.
Speaker 1:Just go retro.
Speaker 6:Just clean house Go retro, all right.
Speaker 2:And bring the Adidas jerseys back. Just go, total retro. Okay, bring the Adidas jerseys back.
Speaker 1:You know, just Total retro all the way back may have to move back.
Speaker 2:Yeah, bring a horn in there too.
Speaker 3:That's how much you believe that they're gonna win the series.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 3:Well, when it comes to okay, see, I don't think that I think that they are a very talented team. It's just the youth is showing, especially when it comes to Jalen, I don't think that I think that they are a very talented team. It's just the youth is showing, especially when it comes to Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, because Jalen Williams had a great game yesterday but it didn't feel like it was like really dominating. It didn't feel like it was, it was like putting a stamp on it. I do think that Chet has shown up in moments and then he's disappeared.
Speaker 3:Shea's consistently been the best player, but now the way they're guarding him, it's like nobody else seems to be really, you know, helping him out. That's the thing with this okc team. It's because they're led by shay, but they have a great, like great roster around him. So, my big thing with this team, and for them to win these, win three straight, it literally has to be okay, shay, you're, you just pick at the big moments, this is when we need you, but the rest of the game, somebody else has to step up to help him out. And that's why I think they lost these two games, because, again, shea literally had 40 in the first game. I'm not going to be out here saying that Shea is having a bad series. I think last game it was really because of how they were guarding him and he's just tired because he's like carrying this team and that's not how okc has been built.
Speaker 1:This whole entire season they've been dominant because they played really good team basketball, so yeah okay yeah yeah, I feel that uh, you know I won't go as far as uh as diego on if they were to lose this, that they'd have to clean house, but I do feel and I was completely against this before, but I felt that with their trajectory, with all the picks that they had, they're built for the long haul to continue to stay competitive, to get at least three titles, and just that. Sam Presti had done a magnificent job of constructing this team to be good for a long time. However, now, after getting to this point, if they were to then lose to the Pacers after being such an overwhelming favorite, I feel that they would have to entertain trying to go and get KD and do something for nothing else other than to get the attention off the fact that they collapsed in the NBA Finals, right, other than to get the attention off the fact that they collapsed in the NBA finals Right, similar to the Golden State Warriors back in what was it? 2015? 2016.
Speaker 3:After 3-1.
Speaker 1:Yeah, when they lost 3-1, right, that was all man's state and they were about to really, really really get killed.
Speaker 1:But, then about a week later, they signed KD and that just changed the whole entire topic, whole entire narrative. Let me hit this comment here. Thanks everybody, much love for your comments and support. So let's see Professor says NBA prefers a seven-game series. Yeah, yeah, so that's my dad, based on revenue for a small market series. My dad has always been on that. So that's so, so funny. Whenever the Bulls would lose, coming up, my dad would always say it was fixed. It was fixed. The NBA wants it to go longer. I always say that.
Speaker 7:So shout out.
Speaker 3:Shout out to Pounce. Man Shout out to Pounce.
Speaker 1:What's love there and I'm going to try to keep my eye on the comments. So I what's love there and I'm going to try to keep my eye on the comments. I'm not looking at that screen but I definitely. Since this is the last live show, I want to try to be a little more mindful of those today. And if you have a question then we'll hold that up and we'll make sure we answer your question. If you have any of those, all right, but yeah, so I believe if they do end up falling short, they may want to, for nothing else, for morale, for everything. Okay, let's change the narrative, let's use all these picks, let's do something to make a big splash, to kind of take the attention off the fact that we just let this go. So that'll be very interesting to see what happens there. They might have to deviate from the plan, all right, so we are going to bring on Brianna next. All right, out of Arizona. Let's bring on Bri. Here we go. What's up, bri?
Speaker 1:Hi what's going on? It's been a minute when you been.
Speaker 6:Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1:I know you've done a lot man Graduated, been, you know, doing a bunch, been going to big games, taking photos with big time stars, whatever. I think I saw one I don't want to steal all your thunder, but I did see one with Spider Mitchell I believe that you took. So you know making big inroads there. But before we ask you anything else, I do just again want to do a quick plug. While we got everyone here, get your merch today. Go to thepickleproscom. Got a whole lot of fire merch that you can get.
Speaker 1:We've got stuff coming out every week, so you definitely want to make sure that you check that out, all right. So, bree, we're going to. I tell you what. Let's pivot to our next topic. Let's talk Aaron Rodgers. Talk some football with you, okay, and then we'll get your take on uh the series in game four. So let's talk aaron rogers, talk some football with you, okay, and then we'll get your take on uh the series and gang four. So let's talk about that.
Speaker 1:And I also want to plug uh my sports journey, because I know you recently did an interview with will hernandez that's out on the channel right now. So definitely want everyone to check that out. But, um, with football. All right, you'll help us transition over to this. So your, your boy is, as we like to say, aaron Rodgers, that you talked about earlier, has finally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, so I'm going to do a two-parter on this. Are you surprised at all, and will this make any difference? Will they make the playoffs as a result of them signing Aaron Rodgers? Yeah, as a result of them signing Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6:Yeah, I'm not really surprised because he's like he has respect for the coach, so I think that kind of made him want to do it more. I think the make-up is off. That's probably like a very controversial thing to say, but I think they put it off Okay. Well, mainly because I mean Tom Brady when he went into the Bucs he was 43 and he got a super plan. So and it happened with Manning too, so like, and he has DK Manning- yeah, he does have DK Manning.
Speaker 6:And even though he's old, that doesn't really mean anything to me. I think he's a good player and he's gone through a lot. Yeah, Okay.
Speaker 1:All right. All right, we will see. So we'll definitely go around and get everyone else's take on that, but you might be on an island. We'll see if you are with that one and then we'll definitely have to revisit that later. Shout out to Johnny O. I saw your comment there, johnny O, thank you. Shout out, man Again, last live here. Shout out to you. Shout out to the Detroit fam Aunt Deanna, kevin, brian, everybody, florence, everybody, thank you. Saw your comments there, so want to call that out. And then let's see, I got a message here. Oh yeah, ok, I saw that.
Speaker 2:All right, so, diego let's go to you next, man. What is your take on Aaron Rodgers Again? Are they, is this going to make a difference? Are they going to make the playoffs season? Just, aaron rogers, like it's just kind of been toxic ever since last year in green bay. It's just been a lot of a toxic attitude and just not, and just not the play to back it up.
Speaker 2:So I think this is going to be very similar to similar to last year when there was a bunch of hype with him coming into the jets after the torn achilles, but uh, then there was really nothing there. And I think this it's going to be similar right here. I just don't see it. And then DK he's a good receiver, but I do think he's a bit overrated. I put him closer to George Pickens' category. I think he's right there in that realm where some people might put him way, way higher and they're overpaying him. They're paying him, I think, think close to 30 million a year. Yeah, he's up there, paid with top receivers, so just yeah, and he's he's all they got to receiver, like they don't have anyone else. They're running game they have. They have jaylen warren, um, and like that's about it. Tj watt hasn't been going to minicamp. So there's just a lot of drama in Pittsburgh. I just don't see them doing anything.
Speaker 1:Now one follow-up to that Opening night. They play the Jets. I don't know, where that is. I don't know if it's in New Jersey or if that's in Pittsburgh. We'll get a check on that. Those folks are looking that up right now. That might determine, but where would you who wins that opening night game? The?
Speaker 3:Jets, it's in Jersey. Okay, it's in Jersey.
Speaker 1:So it's in. So the Jets are home. Oh, thanks for looking that up. So Jets are home. Putting you on the spot who wins that game. Man, that's a tough one.
Speaker 3:Give me the jets. Okay, give me the jets, give me.
Speaker 6:Justin fields his first game first game was a jet.
Speaker 2:Okay, he's got breese hall. Hand the ball off to him you know throw it to garrett get it, get him a few touches.
Speaker 1:Yeah, okay, I will um see pain. You still have that. When does that come on? Is that a sunday night? 1 pm oh, that's a 1 pm.
Speaker 3:1 pm, thank God listen, jet Steelers, listen with Odear Rogers and Justin Fields. That screams 1613. Let's keep it real.
Speaker 2:That deserves to be in the Carolina.
Speaker 5:Panthers. They got the Carolina Panthers Memorial 1 pm right there with us oh my gosh, we got a Monday night game, week 12.
Speaker 2:So I mean, everybody's looking forward to that, you know, and beating the Cardinals too.
Speaker 6:Beating the Cardinals yearly.
Speaker 2:Looking forward to that, and we low-key own the Cardinals, though right A little bit cardinals are gonna be good you know what, you know what brie and brie.
Speaker 1:We've got a little echo on your side, so I don't know if there's anything you can do about it. But, um, you know what brie, it may depend on if they can resign, will hernandez? So you know me, that might be. That may depend on if they can re-sign, will Hernandez? So you know what I mean. That might be the key. It may determine what they can do there. All right, so C-Pain, do you have anything else on this one?
Speaker 3:Listen, if Aaron Rodgers has no haters, I have left this earth. So I'm just going to say this very honestly I have no faith in this. And Mike Tomlin is a coach who's known for having a bunch of divas on his team, and where has that gotten him in the past few years With the Le'Veon Bell and with Antonio Brown, which we don't even got to mention what happened yesterday, but just throwing it out there, a lot of divas, a lot of people with big personalities on that team and nobody and I mean it has not worked out for this steelers team. So you think, signing a 47 year old quarterback, who's just, who has to learn a new offense within two months to compete against two mvp caliber quarterbacks and whatever the browns are throwing out there, but it's still the two of the top five quarterbacks in the league are in your division and you've got to see them twice a year and we think, oh yeah, this team's going to get the Mike Thomas special and go like 10-7, 9-8. That's not happening this year, not at all.
Speaker 1:Not at all, not this year.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm going to side with Bree. I'm going to side with Bree. I should say yes, yes, yes. So that may be good or bad for you, brie, we'll see. I'm siding with you. I'm going with history. Okay, tomlin has never had a losing season. This will be no different. All right, and they are going to make the playoffs, all right. So we'll revisit this a little later in season four and see where we, where we, check out on this one. All right, Okay, all right, all right. So, brie, let's play a quick clip from your most recent interview with Will Hernandez, and then we're going to get your take on the NBA finals. All right, all right, all right, let's play this, and then again, you can all see this on the my sports journey playlist. Let uh, hit this real quick.
Speaker 5:Kyler murray is a very fun and pleasant quarterback to work for and to block for. He's that kind of splash player that obviously we all seen what he can do right. He runs fast and he has an arm. He also does a lot of behind the scenes things that make us look good sometimes. One time I had a guy slip by and he was on his way to sack Kyler and Kyler was able to get away from him because he's so fast. Playing for a quarterback like that definitely has its perks. I get along with him great. I think he's a great player and makes everybody around him look good.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so definitely make sure you check that out Again. My Sports Journey. So, bree, can you tell us maybe some people you've been connecting with or who might be coming up what you got for us?
Speaker 6:Yeah, so recently I partnered with Swish Den Basketball Training Facility, so we're hoping to get a lot of athletes in there and hopefully I can interview them as well. Just lots of big things coming. I've met a few Sunslayers and the donovan mitchell, so never know never know, never know who's gonna be popping through.
Speaker 1:Yeah, when I saw that pic I was like, oh man, okay, big time. And I know, you know you're still still uh shooting your shot to a booker, so we're still still trying to get it. We're gonna get them, we're gonna get them. Yeah, all right, all right, all right. So, brie, let's get your take um and then we'll put you back uh stage for a little bit and then bring you back for. To just recap season three, but uh finals. So who you got for the series overall and who do you have tonight between the pacers and, uh, the thunder?
Speaker 6:series overall. And who do you have tonight between the pacers and, uh, the thunder? Okay, that's really a hard decision just because both teams like obviously game three Okay, sorry.
Speaker 1:That's all right.
Speaker 6:Game three was not as good as a lot of people were expecting. So I think they're going to turn it around and I think OCC is going to win tonight and I think they're going to win the series. Actually, I don't know now, maybe the okay. That's such a hard decision for me now, now that I'm actually thinking about it, I'm like okay, we could win tonight, but the Pacers could still win it all. So now I'm like kind of conflicted now, but I'm going to stick with OKC. Okc, just lock in my answer.
Speaker 1:Okay, there you go. Okay, sticking with OKC, and OKC is the favorite. Last I checked they were six and a half point favorite tonight, Still the overwhelming favorite to win this series. So we will see. We've got game four tonight, 8.30 pm Eastern. Oh, my goodness, we're going to finish this show on time so everybody can get to this series. Okay, well, bree, we'll see you back in a few minutes as we kind of talk about our favorite moments from season three, and we'll see you in a bit Perfect, all right, all right, fellas. So, man Diego, game seven, I mean game four Tonight. Man Indiana, in Indianapolis, who you got, can I get some money?
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, there you go.
Speaker 7:Thank you got, can I?
Speaker 1:get some money, oh yeah.
Speaker 2:There you go. Thank you, I'm not scared Thunder Winning today. They're winning in six. They're going to go 2022. Golden State Warrior it Control the series from here Put my money where my mouth is Thunder.
Speaker 1:The money that you borrowed? Okay, money I borrowed.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you can have it back now.
Speaker 3:Parenting, great parenting, okay, great parenting over there, solid, all right. Listen, I actually think OKC is going to win this game, but the Pacers are still going to win this series.
Speaker 3:I do think it's going to go down to the wire. I do believe that the Pacers still have the capabilities to win this series. But again, okc, I feel like they're going to come out with a bit more desperation, because even in the Knicks series there was a game where the Pacers we thought, ok, they're going to wrap this up at five. They dropped game five because of a great performance by the Knicks. Pascal Siakam has said that there were moments during these playoffs where certain teams play harder, so I do think that this will be the moment for the Thunder. Now I still have the Pacers winning the series, the Pacers winning at seven, though I'm not saying six.
Speaker 6:I'm not going as far as saying six.
Speaker 3:But listen, listen, if they, I think that they could pull it off in seven. But right now I'm just, I'm just excited to see another game similar to a game winning game three. That's, that's what I'm excited for.
Speaker 1:Okay, I like that. Well, christopher C Payne Davis, I have something that's going to shock you with you.
Speaker 3:Wait, hold up this. Better not be like the Lamar Bills thing.
Speaker 6:This. Better not be like that, because that would set me back for a good couple months I was not happy.
Speaker 3:After that, the good old reverse jinx.
Speaker 1:But I'm actually not going to pull that out on you, I'm not going to do that to you, but I do agree that this is going to out on you.
Speaker 1:I'm not going to do that to you, but I do agree that this is going to go seven. So I agree with you. I'm also adjusting and evolving as this series is going along. This is going to go seven. The Indiana Pacers are going to win tonight. They're going to win the game tonight in Indiana, be up 3-1. And then the OKC Thunder are going to be the first team to legitimately come back from a 3-1 deficit and win the NBA championship. They will not need a stimulus package from the NBA to do it.
Speaker 3:So it's LeBron's fault for Draymond being a crash. How is that our fault? How is that?
Speaker 2:our fault? How is that our fault? Draymond hit him.
Speaker 3:That's our fault. Knowing that he had all those texts. That's our fault.
Speaker 1:LeBron egged that on. If we're going to revisit that he was in the press conference being all dramatic, talking about he's a husband and a father and all this type of stuff.
Speaker 3:How many years have we seen Draymond literally fail?
Speaker 2:get technical fails it's literally been there, yeah, but LeBron really took it over the edge there. You know what I'm saying. We ain't got to start this little LeBron discussion.
Speaker 3:We're talking about the finals. We're talking about the finals.
Speaker 6:That is why.
Speaker 1:That is why I, that is why I'm going to miss the cutoff, so I'm actually miss out on some funds.
Speaker 1:But with OKC being such a big favorite, I actually wanted to put something down on Pacers, so I wanted to do that. I'm not going to be able to do that, but well, actually I might be able to. It's not until 830. But, yes, the Pacers win tonight at home, everybody's going to be fired up. Oh man, over, over, over, stephen A, everybody's going to be saying it's over and they're going to win game five. Oh okay, they're at home, they're supposed to win that. Then they're going to come back to the scene of the crime, fix everything, figure it out in Chicago Bulls style. All right, figure them out. And then come back to game seven and that's when the pressure will be on. See, pacers are a really, really, really good team with no expectations and no pressure. Yes, all right, so they'll go up 3-1, and then sprinklers are going to start to get a little tight and that's when it's all going to fall apart. That's what's going to happen in this series.
Speaker 2:It's going to be so fun. I like that.
Speaker 3:It's going to be so fun, like that it's gonna be, so I I will. I hope that happens, yeah, yeah, oh yeah, you're not shut around with the misery. Yeah, it ain't happening.
Speaker 2:It ain't happening let's like that over the golden state.
Speaker 3:Warriors special action yes, yeah also this is better than steph not getting a gig of fifth ringing. You can unequivocally say he's better than lebron. That that'd feel bad.
Speaker 2:I mean, he already is better than lebron, so all right, he doesn't need a fifth ring. He 15 y'all, don't worry about that LeBron has, I'll give him three and a half. Three and a half is crazy, that bubble. Give him half Half a ring.
Speaker 1:He gonna go oh yeah, hey, man, you got to comment on your hat. So Johnny O said your hat is fire. Oh, yes, and let us know, hey, who's winning tonight, who's winning game four tonight and who's winning the series. We definitely want to. Oh, mashika, oh, shout out to Mashika and Trey. Yes, yes, can't wait, oh, can't wait for the. I want to get it right, the triple 20. I think it is party, where you've got about five 90s and I think we're adding a few more themes. We can't wait for that. So we will see you at your big triple 20 party. We can't wait for that. So, pacers, okay, mashika and Trey have the Pacers, all right. So, yeah, let us know who you got, all right, so we are going to get into. We're going to finish off with a couple of fun things here as we finish off, our live show reminisce a little bit.
Speaker 1:But before we do that, okay, we are actually want to promote and let you know about a special cookie pack. All right, right, here, let me pick this up. Okay, this is a special pack. This is Lexi's Bussin' Bacon. This is a cookie pack that Diego and I we met with them and had this constructed. These are our favorite cookies.
Speaker 1:This is a mini pack of a dozen 12 cookies. There's six different flavors in here. All right, and let me actually show you so you can get these cookies here. There are a dozen. You can get these at Lexi's BussinBaconcom. You can see the URL. You can also hit that QR code. Get your cookies, all right, and so if you navigate to their website, okay, you navigate to their site and then, once you get there, all right, go to their site. You'll see the Pick'em Pros pack right here below.
Speaker 1:Okay, look at all those. Oh man, you got the cookies and cream red velvet. You've, oh man, you got the cookies and cream red velvet. You got the strawberry. You've got the macadamia nut. You've got chocolate chip. This is Oreo peanut butter fudge. Oh, just amazing. So just click on that link right there, all right, and that will bring you to the pack and you can see all right, $16.99 for the pack. And these are all the different detailed cookies that are here.
Speaker 1:Okay, so check those out. These are all the cookies. You don't want to miss this, and the best thing about it is that 10% of the proceeds do not go to us. They go to the memory of coach lee, who's a legendary basketball coach at clayton high school. That's a uh school that we support, uh, and so the coach tragically passed recently and so 10 of the proceeds are going to go to uh, a cause that is designated in his honor. So I just want to that. So please make sure you check those out. All right?
Speaker 1:So let's move on to kind of recap our season three here. Sorry, drop some money from the Pacers and OKC series. So let's go ahead and recap this season three Again. This is our last live show. We have a lot in store for you as we move forward, moving into a new studio, new format. There's a lot that's going to be reimagined, more and more guests.
Speaker 1:So I'll just kind of just start off with the last three seasons and then I want to go through everybody. Kind of tell us some of your favorite moments of the season. If you want to chime in through comments, let us know what stood out to you and if you even have any suggestions of what you want to see in the future. But you know we started this almost four years ago, you know, with season one, diego, and you know the two of us were doing a lot, you know, going back and forth, just picking games, talking, talking, junk and whatnot. Great, great. Season one you know we're at the finals, you know we both picked, had a lot of correct picks that year. Then, as we moved into season two all right, season two Desmond Clark who's on our intro of our show he was a staple for that year was with us the entire season. So that was a really fun year and we went back at it, back and forth, established a great chemistry of Desmond Clark and I know Desmond Clark is going to be coming back soon with a lot of our episodes. So that was really the big highlight of season two.
Speaker 1:Then season three oh man, one of the big highlights, clearly, of season three and let me bring on Brianna as I do this One of the big highlights of season three was that we met two great, great people here that are with us. That really added to what we've got going on. So we met Christopher C Payne Davis and he's been a staple, been on every show this year. So that's been a big highlight for season three giving your hot fire takes, you know, lamar Jackson and LeBron James Lakers and all that. So that's been fun and whatnot.
Speaker 1:And then Brianna Brianna, you know your mother, you know, reached out and we met and hit it off and you joined us on Thanksgiving. Right was there with us live for Thanksgiving. We were in Dallas and that was a, you know, a great start. And then you flew down here and you know, we, you know, had a show in person and then, I think I was there soon after that. So we've done a lot and you are now interviewing athletes and whatnot and that's just been spectacular.
Speaker 1:So, uh, this has definitely been a great season and then again we're looking to evolve. We're going to have more, more guests, more, you know, you know, analysts and associates and people that are part of us and that are on our shows. And, like I said, we've got David back here. You know, scoping us out is going to be helping with sponsorship and it's going to be a big movement as we move into the new studio and do a lot. But let me stop and let's just kind of go around and, diego, let me go to you, man, anything that you want to highlight as far as season three.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the shows at King's have been great. Yeah, we mentioned that, but that's been great, Just getting everything. Meeting Bree and Chris and all that it was all great. Yeah, great year.
Speaker 1:It's been great, Just getting everything meeting Bree and Chris and all that. It was all great. Yeah, great year. It's been good. It's been a lot of fun. It's been a lot of fun. C-pain how about you man?
Speaker 3:Yeah. So again, top three. Again, this has been my favorite thing that I've been doing, really doing what I've always dreamed of doing talking about sports, kicking it with you guys has been amazing. My favorite thing is especially Diego's takes. You feel me, listen, I hope he's wrong about OKC, because this kid it's weird, he's right very early. He's right very early. It's the weirdest thing ever. Because with CJ Stroud he was like, oh yeah, he's not going to have a good second season. I was like, okay, I'll believe it.
Speaker 3:Then it turns out they didn't have a good season. The MVP discussion that we all had you know me with LeBron Y'all stuck with Josh Allen. I didn't see it. Josh Allen somehow won. So again, it's just with Diego, especially he's not running as early and especially with you you know the captain of this all, seeing how you pour into the community, how you've poured into so many people during the live shows, all that stuff, it's been really great to see. So again, really grateful for the show and Brianna, all the interviews and just killing it doing your thing, man, and especially the live show. Seeing you just grow before our eyes at the live show, that was really crazy. So again, really appreciate y'all for a great season three.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, man, no doubt, no doubt. Thank you, thank you Very, very well said, all right, how about you Bri?
Speaker 6:Just being a part of this, like having faith in me on that Thanksgiving show was amazing, and coming down to you guys, that was also an amazing opportunity, so I love everything about this. I had so much fun doing it.
Speaker 7:Oh yeah, thank I had so much fun doing it. Oh yeah, Thank you.
Speaker 1:Thank you, yeah, yeah. Those are just fantastic, fantastic moments. And then you know being able to come there and you know enjoy the games and see you, you know getting out and you're networking and moving and shaking and you know just creating other opportunities and that's something that you know. We certainly did not see that. We started this, as you know, father-son, but we've been able to pour into the community. We've been able to create opportunities. We want nothing more than to see people like Christopher C, payne, davis, brianna, come through, go on to major networks, maybe come back as we continue to grow, whatever. But we want Pick'em Pros to be a support system, ecosystem for you to really launch your career and to be able to get in other doors and then pay it forward full circle and just kind of keep that movement going. So it's been, that's been a great product, byproduct of this.
Speaker 1:And then we see Johnny O right on cue and Johnny, of course, johnny O has been a great guest, was on the fandom show and won the shoes. It has been a staple as well. So thanks for riding with us, johnny. We definitely appreciate that. Been to all the King shows been to everything. So Johnny has been amazing as well. So, yeah, yeah, well, it's great to you know, share these moments and yeah, stay tuned, stay tuned, because if y'all know what you know, share these moments and yeah, stay tuned, stay tuned, because if y'all know what you know, we're only going to go bigger and better.
Speaker 1:So, and in the studio, the studio this was a season three thing with Joe. You know, we've got Joe back there, so this was a season three thing. So, yeah, yeah, the only thing that we were already doing before was Kings. That was still season two, but a lot of the other items with the studio and whatnot came into play in season three, so that was great, all right. Well, bree, on that note, we will definitely be looking for the next'll. You know we'll figure all that out and make some big announcements soon. But yes, keep us posted on what's coming out and we'll be talking to you soon.
Speaker 6:Perfect Will do.
Speaker 1:All right, thanks, bree. Yes, so, and then great comments. So then, summer, I saw a few things. I saw you put up there the King. Yeah, the live shows at Kings have been. Yeah, I saw you put up there the King. Yeah, the live shows at Kings have been. Yeah, those have been great. Meeting the fans, that's been a lot of fun, and so we'll see, you know, what we do with those going forward. But that's another fun thing to be able to kind of get out and, you know, reach out and touch everybody and be up close and personal with everyone. So we'll see as we continue to evolve, but just looking to make things better, just looking to make things better for sure, All right.
Speaker 1:Well, we have one more segment. We're going to bring on Brandon for our final three minutes. We've got three topics that he needs to talk about with us and he's got a minute for each one. So we've got our final three minutes with Brandon. I think Brandon is prepped and cued and ready. He's going to, with his first minute, give us his take on the finals Second minute. He's going to give us his take on the man I can't read my writing the Rodgers, aaron Rodgers, and what they're going to do. And then the final minute recap season three with us, all right. So let's bring on Brandon. What's going on, my man?
Speaker 7:Oh, what's going on?
Speaker 1:oh, what's going on? Hey, hey, all right, oh, okay you represent is that the vikings justin jefferson? Okay, I like that, I like that. Yeah, yeah, I love that. Okay, my man. So, uh, yeah, we'll kick off these three minutes here. So this first minute, uh, tell us, man, uh, finals, who you got.
Speaker 7:So in the finals I would say I got Indiana, as in the comments I said Indiana I think they would have. I could say it would be a total team effort and I could see, like Halliburton have a 20-10 game next time. Oh okay, like it's kind of crazy because, like the Pacers, whenever the Pacers win Halliburton has a good game, when they don't, he doesn't have a good game. So it really depends on what version of Tyrese Halliburton we're going to get tonight and whatever version of Tyrese Halliburton we get tonight. That's what. That's what decide this game tonight and probably the rest of the series.
Speaker 1:OK, ok, yeah, yeah, I like that. I can definitely, definitely see that. We'll see what version we get. Really interesting to see which one shows up. Okay, this next minute, the uh. Aaron rogers, what's your take on this? Does tomlin uh finally have a losing season? Do they make the playoffs? What's gonna happen?
Speaker 7:they'll have a winter season, but they'll just miss the playoffs. They'll go 9-8. I think Cincinnati would get the last spot in with a 10-7 record. I also have Broncos and the Chargers also in the wild card. My division winners are Buffalo, kansas city, baltimore and houston. Um, I have houston at three, buffalo at one, kent city at two and baltimore at four. On the nfc side I have eagles at one, okay, I have rams at two, I have the lions at three and top at four, okay, and I have the commanders at five, I have the niners at six and I have the seattle seahawks being the last team in it with a 10-7 record, also with the 7th seed. So those are my playoff teams from the AFC NFC side, but going back to the A&R situation like here.
